Slow Down

Rushing through a scene in your manuscript isn’t a good idea. Write with a purpose in mind rather than simply slapping words on the page to meet a self-imposed quota. Make sure any time you spend writing worthy of the expenditure of time. Do the best you can every time you sit down to write.

Seriously, this is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. I’m a goal oriented person and I ALWAYS give myself a deadline to finish a manuscript. The result of that self imposed deadline is a shift in focus. Instead of focusing on making it the best book possible, I focus on meeting the deadline. It’s a mistake. Quality is more important and quality takes time.
