With the launch of Deadly Chaos pending I decided to look into how to create a book trailer. I found a fantastic post on Nathan Bransford’s site. Here’s a link to it. http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2010/01/guest-blog-week-how-to-make-book.html
I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer so I decided to give it a go.
Full disclosure…I suck at anything related to graphics, graphic design, and so on. It’s totally not my cup of tea.
However, like anything I went into it with a positive attitude and to be honest, I had fun. It took me four hours to create but I’m pretty happy with it and I know what I need to learn for the next book’s trailer.
But here’s the question…
Do You Really Need a Book Trailer?
You probably don’t need a trailer if:
- You have a huge mailing list
- You don’t care if you sell a book or not
- You have many successfully published books already
However, with so much online competition why not create a book trailer? It can only help you market your book and if that four hours motivates a few sales then it’s time well spent.
Besides, it was fun – really!
Here it is if you want to take a look:
Your book trailer looks fantastic! You did a great job with it. Four hours is a long time to work on a video, but I’m sure you learned alot that will be helpful next time. I just found this book trailer for a romantic or YA novel for sale on fivver.com and when you think about how much time it took you to make your video you wonder how these folks can afford to sell their videos or anythng else on that website for 5 bucks! Here’s the video: http://fiverr.com/videogirl4u/create-a-romance-or-ya-book-trailer
Michelle,
Thanks for the compliment and thank you for the link to the video creation expert on fiverr. I’m a huge fan of outsourcing tasks that I’m not good at, or don’t have time for, and this is clearly a task that challenges me. Though it was fun to do. Thanks again!
I found this wonderful article on PR by the Book — a guest blog by Bring Media on the importance of quality book trailers. I thought you all may enjoy this — http://www.prbythebook.com/bring-media-on-book-trailers/
