This week I’m reading City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab. Yes, it’s written for kids and is on the reading lists of educators across the country, however it’s also delightful and extremely well written. Victoria Schwab is a NY Times bestselling author and has written dozens of books including the Shades of Magic series. If you enjoy paranormal or just a delightful series, I highly recommend this. Do what I did and download a sample first. I was hooked after the first few pages.
What’s it about?
A girl, Cass, who has a near death experience, is pulled back from death by Jacob a ghost who becomes her best friend and partner as she learns why they were put together and what her purpose is. Her parents are authors and ghosthunters who take her on a trip to Scotland to film their new ghosthunting TV show. Scotland is immensely haunted (duh). Cass finds another person who can separate the veil between life and death and see ghosts as she begins to learn her purpose, she finds herself in tremendous danger.
